The Shakers together in Hamilton

It started
with the songs.

Dave Rave and Rick Andrew met in 1972. A shared love of power pop became a writing partnership, then a band.

Influenced by Badfinger, Flamin’ Groovies, Big Star, Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds, The Shakers made a sound of their own. Claude DesRoches joined the story, followed by guitarist and songwriter Tim Gibbons.

1979

Out the Door

The first single, Out the Door / Till I’m Gone, was produced by Rick Andrew and Daniel Lanois and released on Warpt Records. Radio airplay and a growing live following followed.

1981

In Time

Recorded with Daniel Lanois at Grant Avenue Studios, the debut album brought The Shakers to wider audiences. Extensive touring included shows with Teenage Head, Nick Lowe, Paul Carrack and Martha and the Muffins.

1982–83

The next chapter

California / Do Anything was followed by Weekend, recorded with producer Jack Richardson and guest guitarists after Tim Gibbons left to pursue his solo career.

1990s

Back together

Renewed interest in power pop brought a compilation CD, reunion shows and performances of Shakers songs at Liverpool’s Cavern Club.

2024

The original members reunited for six new recordings, released on vinyl and CD on October 4, 2024.
